Rabbi Eliashiv requests that we say Tehillim 13, 70, 83, 125, 128, 130, 142 for the situation in Eretz Yisroel.

The OU calls for a night of Prayer and Torah Study This Wednesday at 9:00 PM.

Agudah is calling for a Tehillim gathering at 7:45 on Wednesday at Chaim Berlin in Brooklyn at 1605 Coney Island Avenue (between avenues L and M).

  1. I belong to a group of women who gather each week to say Tehillim for those who are ill. For the last several years, we have been saying Tehillim for what is going on in Israel as well as for cholim. This is in addition to what we have been saying privately and in the shul. I’m sure that there are many others who are doing the same and don’t publicize it. These gatherings may have already been going on for some time and just now come to the notice of everyone in order to widen the circle of people involved.

  2. I think Rav Eliyashuv and other gedolim have said, for at least two years, we should be saying tehilim 83, 130, 142. Now has come a point, where he thinks even more tehilim need to be said due to the escalation.

    I don’t think this is a matter of “second guessing ” or judging favorably. Every Jew is “an entire world” and as our “brothers’ keepers” we should be concerned about them all. You have set a good example. May others follow.

    My kehila has been gathering for reciting Tehilim since 2002, for example. My chevrusa was active in organizing them and he reported that one cannot overestimate the amount of time and resources involved in organizing even a single rally in one kehila.

    Perhaps 2nd-guessing the sincerity of whomever and speculating on bias is not within the paramaters of the work and critical achdus necessary to follow through.

    We traditionally learn Pirke Avos in the summer: “L’khal Adam Dan L’Kaf Zchus”

    IMO there’s already way too many items to get upset about before questioning motives.

I’m wondering why gatherings to say Tehillim are first being made now by these groups and haven’t been made as Kassams landed and continue to land in Sderot, Ashkelon, and Netivot (and formerly in Gush Katif). Are the Jews living in the south somehow not worthy of our concern? Do we call it a war only now, as missiles land in the north? I find this very upsetting.

    On another list, I also found 6, 20, 22, 30, 79, 121.
