Blood and Platelet Donations Needed

Mannes Friedman is currently a patient at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. His treatment requires regular blood and platelet transfusions. Mannes and his family would deeply appreciate your donation of blood or platelets and requests you ask others you know to donate.

Donations not used by Mannes will be released for use by other patients many of whom will be children. Designated donations for Mannes must be made in the Blood Donor Room of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Appointments are necessary. All blood types are acceptable.

FREE parking is available for donors at garage on 66th Street at the corner of York Avenue.
The process for donating whole blood takes approximately 1 hour. The process for donating platelets takes about 2 1/2 hours.

  1. I’m not in the NY area, but I frequently donate blood and platelets at my local center. As indicated, platelets take a while. They do everything they can to make you comfortable. My location offers TVs, VCRs, and DVD players posistioned to watch while donating. I usually bring a good book to read (now currently working my way through Rabbi Telushkin’s “Jewish Literacy.”) It’s a great feeling when you leave knowing how much you do. It takes 6-8 regular (whole blood) donations for one platelet transfusion. A platelet donor can supply 1-3 transfusions in a single donation.
